WHAT SHOULD ADAPTATION MEAN TO A LEADER?

Have you ever been a part of a meeting where someone says something like, “We’ve always done it that way"? As a leader, these can be dangerous words.

The only thing constant in life is change. Our ability to change and adapt is a true measure of our health and resilience. Change is challenging, and you don’t have to go it alone. One possible goal of coaching is to help you take the next step. This step may be a difficult one that you need some structure, support, and accountability to accomplish.

Adaptation is a word that they use in the world of books and movies. Books are adapted to movie scripts. Some sections are added, and others are left out completely as the screenwriters consider the impact of the events and their meaning on the movie watcher. Consider how this applied to your leadership in 2020 (and into 2021).

As the physical world around us shut down, there were two possible views that could be applied to almost any business owner’s mindset. First, the shutdown will end my business, and I will not be able to take care of my family. Second (and our favorite), the shutdown is an opportunity to do something new!

Many businesses were forced to adapt their business to a digital world. Some things were changed to fit the digital platform. With in-person workshops not being an option, the Votta Group took our group coaching online to Zoom and saw many of our clients still achieve amazing results, even during a global pandemic.

Again, change is constant. Your ability to adapt to the changes and create a view that keeps you looking for ways to grow, innovate, and accelerate your business will be the difference between closing a business and hiring new employees to meet the growing demand for your product or service.

So, whether you’ve worked with any training/development firm or if you’ve never been coached before, it doesn’t matter. You’ve never been where you are now with your current set of circumstances. The change that has been brought your way in the last year isn’t like anything we have seen before. And now some companies are asking employees to return to the office while others are selling commercial properties and making virtual a more permanent way to work.
